About

Proselens is a writing lens that helps you say more with less. Paste or type any text — an email, an essay, a chapter, a cover letter — and Proselens reads it the way a sharp editor would, then marks up the lines worth a second look. Everything happens on your device. No sign-in, no cloud, no tracking. Pay once. No subscription. No in-app purchases. It's yours. A LIVE CLARITY SCORE At the top of the editor sits a single number from 0 to 100. It blends a real readability index with how densely your writing leans on hard sentences, passive voice, adverbs, complex words, and filler. Tighten a line and watch the score climb. It's the fastest feedback loop in your writing. COLOR-CODED HIGHLIGHTS, AS YOU TYPE Proselens paints your text inline, the moment you stop typing: • Very hard sentence — very long or tangled; break it up. • Hard sentence — long or dense; consider splitting it. • Passive voice — "to be" plus a past participle; active voice is clearer. • Adverb — an -ly adverb a stronger verb could replace. • Weasel word — vague qualifiers and filler that add nothing. • Complex word — a long word with a simpler everyday alternative. Tap any highlight, or any chip in the legend, to jump straight to it. Step through every issue from the keyboard bar. Turn off any check you don't care about and the counts and score update instantly. THE NUMBERS THAT MATTER • Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch–Kincaid grade level • Gunning Fog, SMOG, Automated Readability Index, and Coleman-Liau — four additional grade-level indices for a fuller picture • Writing Target — pick an intended audience and compare transparent English-prose estimates with a reference band • Sentence Review — get audience-aware plain-language actions and jump directly to priority sentences • Revision snapshots — compare before/after text and metrics, then restore earlier work safely • Recoverable library — versioned atomic saves, backup recovery, migration, and bounded import/export • Reading time at a speed you set • Words, sentences, paragraphs, and characters • Average words per sentence and syllables per word A clean stats sheet lays it all out, with a plain-English read on what your score means and how to lift it. WORD FREQUENCY Tap "Word Frequency" in the Stats sheet to see which content words you rely on most, ranked by count with frequency bars. A Type-Token Ratio tells you at a glance whether your vocabulary is High, Good, Fair, or Low variety. Stop words, articles, and filler are excluded so only the words that carry meaning show up. SENTENCE LENGTH DISTRIBUTION The Stats sheet includes a visual bar chart showing the length of every sentence in your document, color-coded green, amber, or red by the same hard and very-hard thresholds as the editor. Spot sentence monotony or confirm you have healthy variety at a glance. A LIBRARY FOR YOUR DRAFTS Save what you're working on and come back to it later. Each draft shows its clarity at a glance — including a +/– delta badge that shows how much your score changed since the previous save, so you can see revision progress at a glance. Search across everything. Copy or share the checked text in a tap. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Proselens uses Apple's on-device language tools to do all of its analysis right on your iPhone or iPad. There is no networking in the app at all. Your words never leave your device — not to us, not to anyone. It works fully offline, on every device, with nothing to download. BUILT FOR REAL WRITING • Adjustable thresholds for what counts as a long sentence • Adjustable reading speed for accurate reading-time estimates • Editor text size and an optional monospaced mode for code and scripts • Dark, focused interface designed to keep you in the words • Full Dynamic Type and VoiceOver support Whether you're polishing a newsletter, cutting a report down to size, or just trying to sound like yourself, Proselens is the second pair of eyes that's always with you — and always private.

What's new · 3.0

Version 3.0 • Review guidance now identifies priority sentences for your selected audience and offers specific plain-language actions grounded in WCAG reading-level principles. • Readability formulas now show their equations, English-language applicability, sample-size limits, and assumptions. Grade output is clearly presented as an estimate, never a diagnosis. • Revision snapshots add before/after text and metric comparisons, with a reviewable history and recoverable restore action. • Document storage is now versioned, atomic, and recoverable. Proselens migrates earlier libraries, keeps a last-known-good backup, reports failures visibly, and supports bounded library import/export. • Long-document analysis remains off the main thread, while the editor now scales with Dynamic Type and improves VoiceOver, hardware-keyboard, Find, and iPad behavior.
