About

Punycode URL Blocker is a Safari Web Extension for iPhone and iPad that blocks requests to hostnames with Punycode (xn--) labels. Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) use ASCII labels starting with "xn--". To avoid Punycode or IDN homograph domains, this extension blocks requests when any hostname label starts with "xn--". Key Features: - Blocks Safari requests when any hostname label (domain, subdomain, or TLD) starts with "xn--". - Standard ASCII hostnames without "xn--" load normally. - URLs with "xn--" only in the path or query are not blocked. - No allowlists or settings; operated solely via the Safari extension toggle. - No sign-in required. UI supports English, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese (Taiwan), and Simplified Chinese (English fallback). Important Limitations: - Blocks ALL "xn--" IDNs, including legitimate multilingual domains, without exception. Turn off the extension in Safari Settings to visit a legitimate IDN site. - Does not detect ASCII phishing or malicious sites and cannot guarantee complete attack prevention. Privacy & Permissions: - No data collection, tracking, or external network requests. - Static declarativeNetRequest rules only; no permission to read page content or history. How to Enable (iPhone & iPad): 1. Tap "Open Safari Extensions Settings" in the app on iOS/iPadOS 26.2+ (may open the main Settings screen), or go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions (or Settings > Safari > Extensions). 2. Enable "Punycode URL Blocker".

What's new · 1.0.1

- Localized the companion app guide into English, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese (Taiwan), and Simplified Chinese (with English shown for unsupported primary languages). - Added an "Open Safari Extensions Settings" button in the guide screen (available on iOS/iPadOS 26.2+; depending on the environment, this may open the main Settings screen. Manual steps are shown on earlier OS versions). - Existing Punycode (xn--) hostname blocking rules and extension behavior remain unchanged.
