Halfway: Medium Format Focus

About

Halfway tells you where to focus so everything from the foreground to infinity is sharp. Pick a lens, tap an aperture, and Halfway shows the hyperfocal distance in large type with the near limit underneath: focus at 25 ft and everything from 12 ft to infinity is sharp. Below that, one table shows every half-stop at once, from f/2.5 to f/32, each with its own focus distance and near limit, on a scale that moves the way your focus ring does. BUILT FOR THE X2D II Halfway is made for the Hasselblad X2D II 100C and the XCD 2,5/25V, 38V, 55V and 90V lenses. It knows the sensor size and each lens's minimum focus distance, and it uses the same half-stop apertures the camera shows. When the hyperfocal distance is closer than a lens can focus, Halfway says so and shows what you get at minimum focus instead. CHOOSE YOUR STANDARD OF SHARP • Print: the traditional standard, a print viewed from about its own diagonal (36.5 µm). • Large: twice as strict, for big prints viewed up close (18.3 µm). • Pixel: holds up at 100% on screen (7.5 µm, two pixels). • Custom: set your own circle of confusion. DIFFRACTION, FLAGGED Stop down far enough and diffraction blur grows larger than your standard allows. Halfway marks those apertures in orange, so you know before you shoot. WORKS ANYWHERE No account, no ads, no tracking, and no network connection at all. Halfway works the same in Airplane Mode on a mountain as it does at home. ALSO • Feet or metres • Light and dark mode, and larger text sizes • iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo, with a two-pane layout when unfolded • The method and every formula, on the Info screen Halfway is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hasselblad.
