About
Git Digger is a terminal digging game where the ground is git history. Every layer of earth is a commit. Dig down and you walk back through history; split a tunnel and you have a branch. Underneath runs a real git repository, not a simulation, and every line the game prints is git's own wording. Eight levels: 1. The surface: status, add, commit. Bury three treasures. 2. The layers: log, show, diff. Find the layer where the gem was dropped. 3. Time travel: checkout, switch. Dig to a past layer, grab the key, come back. 4. The tunnels: branch. Dig a side tunnel without disturbing the main shaft. 5. Joining: merge and conflicts. Two tunnels meet at a rock; choose which side's rock stays. 6. Stash: stash, stash pop. A cave-in mid-dig: stash your tools, fix it, get them back. 7. Rewriting: rebase, reset. Move a tunnel to a new start without losing what is in it. 8. The boss: everything so far, typed by hand, under a move limit. Rebuild a collapsed mine. Each command starts as a choice on a picker, then types itself out as you pick it, then waits for you to type it with Tab to help, and finally asks you to type it alone. A level is passed only when you can do it unaided. Mistakes are survivable. The reflog is your rescue rope. For iPad and Mac.
