Own Words is a study app built around one rule: you write your answer before you see the prepared one. The card does not open until you have typed something, and there is a "I don't know" button that opens it with nothing typed, so you are never stuck on a card. Made for people with ADHD and for anyone whose focus wanders: five cards a session, one card on screen at a time, and an answer you type before you can peek. Own Words is a study tool, not a medical or treatment app. After the reveal you see your answer beside the prepared one, broken into its separate points, and you say for each point whether you actually said it. That is the grading, and it is yours; the app never marks a point for you. A card counts as learned after correct recalls on three different days, not three times in one sitting. WHERE DECKS COME FROM Paste a deck link, open one someone sent you, or pick a deck file. Decks are plain JSON and the format is the same one the own-words web engine uses, so a deck you already have opens here unchanged. What you import is stored byte for byte, so exporting gives back the file that came in. You can also use Generate to make decks from a topic or pasted text. Generate is one of four paid features. A SESSION IS FIVE CARDS Five cards, chosen by the schedule, with the end of the session visible from the first card. At the end you see four numbers: points you said, points you missed, cards where you said every point, and cards with a miss. Those numbers are what you did and nothing below them changes them. WHAT COSTS MONEY Studying, importing, exporting and the reminder are free and work offline. Four features are paid: Explain explains text you mark on a card, Simpler puts text you mark into simpler words, Ask answers questions about a card, and Generate makes decks from a topic or pasted text. The first three generated decks are free. After that it is 4.99 USD a month or 29.99 USD a year, through one subscription. If any of those four fails because you have no connection, the app says so and does not offer you a subscription. Being offline is not a reason to be charged. PRIVACY Your answers are stored on your phone. Explain, Simpler and Ask send the card and what you typed; Generate sends the topic or pasted text. These actions send text to Claude by Anthropic through Helio's server, only after you give consent and press the action. The text is not stored on our side beyond the thread you can delete, and nothing you write is used to train anything. There is no advertising and no tracking SDKs. CAVEATS, SO YOU KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY - Available in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian and Japanese. - The four paid features send text to a model and need a connection. A model can be wrong. You mark your own answer; none of these features grades it automatically. - There is no sync. Decks and progress live on the device you studied on. - The schedule is the app's; the marks are yours. The schedule never erases a mark. Own Words Pro Own Words Pro is an auto-renewable subscription, billed monthly or yearly. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it any time in your App Store account settings.
