Rock Identifier: Mineral & Gem

About

Discover what your rock might be with RockID. Take a photo or choose one from your gallery to explore possible matches for rocks, minerals, crystals, and gemstones. From a pebble found on a walk to a crystal in your collection, RockID helps you understand your specimen and what to check next. IDENTIFY FROM A PHOTO Get an AI-assisted identification with a possible name, rock type, and useful details about your find. EXPLORE PROPERTIES Learn about composition, Mohs hardness, luster, streak, formation, typical locations, and uses. These are reference properties of the suggested match, not measurements taken from your photo. COMPARE LOOK-ALIKES Explore similar specimens and clues that can help you tell them apart. Follow suggested verification checks to investigate your possible match. BUILD YOUR COLLECTION Save your identified specimens and return to your discoveries and scan history. CHECK A POSSIBLE METEORITE Use a guided checklist covering magnetism, streak, relative weight, and surface bubbles. This is a preliminary check, not confirmation that a specimen is a meteorite. EXPLORE VALUE INFORMATION See estimated value information and learn what can affect a specimen's value. Estimates are educational and are not professional appraisals. GET A CLEARER PHOTO Use natural light, show a clean, dry surface, and photograph one specimen at a time. Include a coin or another familiar object for scale. IMPORTANT TO KNOW RockID is for educational use. AI identification from a photo can be inaccurate. Confirm important findings with a geologist or appropriate field tests. Do not rely on the app for purchases, valuation, gemstone authenticity, or safety decisions. FREE ACCESS & OPTIONAL SUBSCRIPTIONS Get one free identification per day.
