About
Eat out in Japan with more confidence. Point your camera at a Japanese menu. FoodLens Japan translates every dish, explains what it is, and estimates the allergens and ingredients that are easy to miss — then helps you ask the staff in Japanese. CHECKED BY A PROFESSIONAL CHEF Japanese food hides ingredients you can't see: dashi is usually made from fish, soy sauce contains wheat, mirin is a kind of sake, and many dressings contain egg. The rules behind FoodLens were reviewed dish by dish by a professional chef. In our test on 25 real restaurant menus (504 dishes), FoodLens missed about 1.4% of allergens, and showed about 0.8% of dietary checks as fine when they weren't. We publish these numbers because no app is perfect — that's why FoodLens always sends you to the staff for the final answer. WHAT YOU GET • Menu translation into 12 languages: English, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 한국어, Français, Español, ภาษาไทย, Tiếng Việt, Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, Italiano, Русский • 11 allergen groups, including squid & octopus, fish-based dashi and oyster sauce • Vegetarian, vegan, halal-friendly (no pork, no alcohol) and pescatarian checks • Clear badges: red when a dish normally contains something, and "?" when it depends on the restaurant • A filter that hides dishes that don't fit your profile, and a search for big menus • Prices converted to your currency ASK STAFF — IN JAPANESE Tap Ask Staff to show a large Japanese question card, such as "Does this dish contain egg? (including dashi)". The first card tells the staff about your allergies. Staff can tap Yes / No / Not sure, and their answer is saved on the dish, so you both understand each other without a shared language. MORE • Glossary of common Japanese food words, with notes on hidden ingredients • History of your scans, with the nearby area saved if you allow location • Photo tips and a quick tutorial • Try it right away with a demo menu FREE, NO ADS, NO ACCOUNT FoodLens Japan is free, with no ads, no purchases and no sign-up. You can scan 3 menus a day. YOUR PRIVACY Your allergy settings and history stay on your phone. Menu photos are analysed and then discarded by our server. Your location is never sent to our server. IMPORTANT Allergen information is estimated by AI based on standard recipes and is not 100% guaranteed. Recipes differ between restaurants. Toppings, add-ons and self-service bars are not analysed. Always confirm with the restaurant staff before eating, especially if you have a severe allergy.
