About
ChainTimer is a timer for routines that come in layers. Most timers give you two shapes: one countdown, or a fixed interval workout. Real routines look more like this — Legs · Squats (4 rounds) - Deep squat ×8 reps - Half squat ×8 reps - Bottom squat ×8 reps - Mid-set pause 10 sec - Deep squat ×8 reps A group has a repeat count. A group holds as many items as you want. An item can be measured in seconds or in reps. ChainTimer is built for exactly that: set it up once, start it with one tap, and keep your hands off the phone. WHAT IT DOES • Groups → rounds → items One timer holds several groups. Each group repeats for N rounds. Each round runs through its own items in order. Rep-based items advance automatically on the beat — about 1 rep per second by default, adjustable per item. • A running screen you can read from across the room Nothing scrolls. You get the current item name, a very large remaining time, "round 2 of 4 · item 3 of 5", dual progress rings (this item and the whole chain), and the projected finish time. • Keep pace without looking at the screen A tick every second, a spoken cue when the item changes ("Start Deep squat, 8 reps, round 2"), and a beep for the last 3 seconds. Audio can duck your music, mix with it, or take priority — your music comes back when the cue ends. • Alerts on the lock screen and in the background Leave the app and the ticking stops to save battery. Instead, every item end becomes a local notification with a sound ("Deep squat done" / "Next: Half squat, ×8 reps"). Pick one of 10 built-in alert sounds per timer. • Survives a force quit Timing runs on a timeline, not a per-second counter. Pause, background it, lock the phone or kill the app — your progress is still there. On relaunch ChainTimer asks whether to continue, end and save, or discard. If the session should have finished while you were away, it opens the finished screen with the theoretical end time. • Build a timer in two minutes Duration fields accept 90, 1:30, 2h30m and 1.5 hours. Names such as "Deep squat 8 reps" or "Pause 10 sec" are parsed into the right measure. The editor shows the projected total length while you type, groups can be copied and pasted whole, and common blocks are one tap away. TEMPLATES TO START FROM • Legs — rep-based moves with a mid-set pause, 4 rounds (2 min 48 sec) • Workday — work 30 min + rest 5 min, 8 rounds (4 h 40 min) • Tabata 4 min — 20 sec / 10 sec × 8 rounds • 4-7-8 Breathing — inhale 4 sec · hold 7 sec · exhale 8 sec × 4 rounds Templates are fully editable, not fixed programs. GOOD FOR Strength and home training, following a gym plan, pomodoro-style work and study, meditation, breathing and yoga, cooking and lab steps — anything that goes "do A, then B, repeat N times". PRIVACY No account, no network requests, no data collection. Every timer and run record stays on this device. NOTES • Every item counts the same: it runs on the clock and counts toward progress. Need a rest between rounds? Add a "Rest" item at the end of the group. • "Repeat 4 times" means 4 rounds in total, not 5. • Background alerts need notification permission; without it, everything else still works. • Requires iOS 17 or later. iPhone portrait and landscape, plus iPad.
