New: scan a barcode Checking a product is now quicker. Tap Scan barcode, point your camera at the barcode, and Halal Scanner looks the product up and checks its ingredients for you — no need to photograph the ingredients list. • Works offline: the product database is built into the app, so nothing is sent anywhere • Covers UK packaged foods from Open Food Facts • Not in our database, or no ingredients on record? You can scan the ingredients list on the pack instead, in one tap • Barcode results show where the ingredients came from. Recipes change, so you can scan the pack to confirm • If an ingredient needs caution, scanning the pack lets a halal logo be taken into account Also new: an About screen explaining how the app works, where the product data comes from, and how your privacy is protected. As always, Halal Scanner is guidance to help you read labels, not a religious ruling. When in doubt, check with the manufacturer. Product data © Open Food Facts contributors, ODbL.

About
Scan the barcode or read the ingredients list. Get an answer. Halal Scanner Pro checks what's in a packaged product and tells you whether it looks halal, haram, or deserves a closer look. Scan the barcode for a quick answer, or photograph the ingredients printed on the pack. Either way, everything happens on your device. HOW IT WORKS • Scan a product's barcode, and the app looks up its ingredients in a product database built into the app • Or take one photo of the ingredients list, and the text is read on your phone using its built-in text recognition • Each ingredient is matched against the rulebase and given a verdict • Tap anything flagged to see exactly why BARCODE OR PHOTO Barcode scanning covers UK packaged foods from Open Food Facts. If a product isn't in the database, or has no ingredients on record, one tap takes you to the camera to scan the ingredients list instead. Recipes change, so every barcode result shows where its ingredients came from, and you can scan the pack to confirm. A photo of the pack can also pick up a printed halal logo, which a barcode can't. ENTIRELY OFFLINE There is no server and no account. The product database is built into the app, and your photos are processed on your phone and never leave it. The app works on a plane, in a basement, or abroad with data switched off — because it never needed a connection in the first place. THREE VERDICTS, NOT TWO Ingredients are not always a yes or a no. Alongside halal and haram, the app flags Caution: ingredients whose status depends on the source, the process, or which scholarly opinion you follow. Caution never means haram. It means there is more to find out. SHOWS ITS WORKING Every flagged ingredient opens into the reason it was flagged, the scholarly context, the category it falls under, and numbered source references. Ingredients that merely invite the question — "chocolate liquor", for instance — carry a magnifier you can tap. PRIVACY No account. No ads. No subscription. No analytics. Barcodes and photos are read on your phone, and nothing is sent anywhere. IMPORTANT This app reads ingredient text, from the pack or from Open Food Facts, and applies documented rules. It is a guidance tool, not a certification. Packaging can be incomplete, print can be misread, database entries can be out of date, and sourcing can change without notice. Verify with the manufacturer where it matters, and consult a qualified scholar on questions of religious ruling. Never change prescribed medical, surgical, emergency or allergy treatment on the basis of an app result. Product data © Open Food Facts contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
