About
A letter in every cell, heavy bars between words, clues written in Portugal. Cruzadas is the barred crossword of Portuguese magazines, made for iPad, iPhone and Mac — and made to be playable by someone still learning the language. FIVE CHAPTERS, MEASURED Canja, Favas Contadas, Mãos à Obra, Osso Duro de Roer and Bicho de Sete Cabeças: 115 grids from 6×6 to 15×15. Each chapter is harder than the last — grid size and clue level together — and within a chapter the grids climb in order. Difficulty was measured, not guessed. CLUES FROM PORTUGAL A hand-written vocabulary in European Portuguese: over three thousand words and fourteen thousand clues. Never the same clue for the same word in two grids. Towns, rivers, writers, singers, dishes, feasts and sayings — Portugal in short words and long ones. THE MAGAZINE RULE Grid letters carry no accents or cedilla: AVÓ is written AVO, LEÇA is written LECA. As soon as a word is right, it shows its real spelling, and a tap opens it in the system dictionary. FOR LEARNERS The app speaks your language — English, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, German or Italian — and the game speaks Portuguese. Every clue can be read aloud in a Portuguese voice. A solved word shows how it is spelt and opens the dictionary. HINTS WHEN YOU NEED THEM Ten hints to start: each clears the wrong letters from the selected word and reveals one letter at random. From the third chapter on, every ten grids solved without hints earns another. PROGRESS FOLLOWS YOU Solved grids, written letters and best times travel through iCloud to your iPad, iPhone and Mac. No account, no ads, nothing collected. DAY AND NIGHT Cream paper with azulejos behind it by day; a deep blue by night, at your choice or with the system. The first three chapters are free. Osso Duro de Roer and Bicho de Sete Cabeças are bought once each, no subscriptions, with the first grid of each open to try.
