Slab is a physically modelled steel plate reverb. Not a room pretending to be a plate. Not an impulse response. A sheet of steel the size of a door - 25,000 resonant modes, all worked out at once, under everything you play. It's a lot of metal for 99¢. LET IT RING Hold the SWELL foot and the reverb keeps building. Every note adds more energy to the plate. Keep playing and the sound gets bigger, then bigger, then completely out of hand. There is no reason to stop. So don't. DAMP IT Real plate reverbs have a damper. Slab does too. Hit DAMP and a felt pad drops onto the steel, choking the vibration almost instantly. It's not a fake decay control - the plate stops because something stopped it. PICK YOUR PICKUPS • STEREO - twin pickups on opposite sides of the plate for a wide, moving image. • MONO - one pickup, like the original single-output designs. Same plate, different perspective. AND THE KNIFE SWITCH Throw it to drive the signal into the plate through a measured amp stage - warm, dark and genuinely dirty when you dig in. THE CONTROLS • DECAY - how long the steel keeps moving (0.3-10 s). • TONE - the damper's resting position, from lifted-and-bright to pressed-and-dark. • PREDELAY - the gap before the plate speaks. • MIX - a host parameter that adjusts the plate level around the dry signal. PERFORMANCE MODE Open Help and enable Performance Mode for an alternative plate sound that uses less processing power. The original physical model remains the default. WORKS EVERYWHERE • AUv3 plug-in for GarageBand, Logic Pro, AUM, Cubasis and other AUv3 hosts on iPad and iPhone • Standalone app - plug in and play, no DAW needed • MIDI control in standalone; parameter automation in compatible hosts • One purchase covers iPad, iPhone and the Mac app, with AUv3 support in compatible hosts. A real plate is enormous, heavy, and hungry for maintenance. Slab is a few megabytes.
