Litmus reads what is actually printed on the package and tells you what is in it, with the evidence behind every flag and the source it came from. IT WORKS WITH NO INTERNET The product database and the ingredient rules are on your phone. Scan in a basement aisle, on a plane, or abroad with data switched off. Nothing is uploaded, no photo is written to disk, and there is no account to create. TWO WAYS TO SCAN Point at a barcode and Litmus looks it up in a bundled database of about 440,000 US products. If it is not there, tap Read ingredient list and the camera reads the printed panel instead. That second path is the important one: it works on any physically labelled product, it never goes stale, and it works on cosmetics too. YOUR ALLERGEN LIST IS FREE, FOREVER Add as many allergens as you like and every scan checks against them. This is the safety layer and it is never behind a paywall, never capped, and never reordered below an upsell. Litmus reports "no flagged ingredients found" and asks you to verify with your clinician, because a label cannot rule out cross contact and we will not pretend otherwise. EVERY INGREDIENT, NOT JUST THE ALARMING ONES A thirty ingredient label produces thirty rows. Each one says what we found: an evidence tier with its citation, no concern on record, an ordinary ingredient we hold no additive record for, or text we could not match. Saying "we do not know" out loud is the point. EVIDENCE, NOT VERDICTS Flags describe the STRENGTH OF THE EVIDENCE, from strong human evidence down to no current evidence of concern at permitted use. Every one carries the regulation or assessment it came from, so you can go and read it. Litmus does not call products dangerous and does not copy scores from any other app. AN HONEST SCORE, OR NONE AT ALL Where the nutrition data is complete, Litmus shows a 0 to 100 score using the published Nutri-Score algorithm plus our own additive and organic weighting, and shows you the sub-scores that produced it. Where the data is incomplete, it says so instead of inventing a number. PRO ADDS DEPTH, NOT SAFETY Optional Litmus Pro adds a plain-English explanation for each flagged ingredient, written from the same sources the free tier cites, plus separate profiles for a household and CSV export of your scan history. Everything described above stays free. SUBSCRIPTION TERMS Litmus Pro is available monthly or yearly, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase.
