About

Most iron tracking apps count what you swallow. IronYield estimates what your body can actually absorb — and that is a very different number. Take 325 mg of ferrous sulfate and the label says 65 mg of elemental iron. Drink tea with it and your body may take in around 2 mg. Have a vitamin C source instead and the same tablet can give you several times that. IronYield makes that difference visible, dose by dose. HOW IT WORKS • Mark your iron — a supplement or an iron-rich food — and a two-hour window opens. • Tap what you have around it: coffee, tea, milk or cheese, a calcium pill, a vitamin C source. One tap each. • Watch the estimate move in real time. • When the window closes you get the milligrams, plus the ONE change that would have gained you the most. WHY THE WINDOW MATTERS Iron comes in two forms and they behave differently. Vitamin C strongly increases absorption of the plant form. Tea and coffee reduce it. Calcium is the only thing known to reduce both plant and animal forms — which is why a cheese sandwich costs you even the iron from meat. Timing is the part you can actually change, and it is the part most people never see. WHAT ELSE IS IN IT • 89 foods with their iron, vitamin C and calcium values, each tied to its own USDA record so you can check any number. • Elemental iron worked out for you: enter the tablet milligrams and the form, and the app does the conversion the label makes confusing. • A ferritin and hemoglobin log, shown exactly as you entered it. • Blood donors: track the iron replaced after a donation. • CSV export of your dose history — yours to keep, free for everyone. • A "How we calculate" screen, open to everyone, with the sources and the limits of the model written out plainly. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS NOT This is an estimate, not a measurement. It uses a published algorithm (Hallberg & Hulthén, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2000) and public USDA food data, and it says so on screen. Two of the inputs that algorithm wants — phytate and polyphenol content — are not in the USDA data, so the app approximates them by food group. That limit is written inside the app, not buried here. IronYield does not diagnose anything, does not suggest a dose, and does not interpret your lab results. Your target is the number your doctor gave you. For blood donors: whether you can donate is decided by your blood center's screening, never by this app. Works offline. No account, no sign-up, no data leaves your phone. Not medical advice — talk to your doctor about your iron. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings at any time.
