About

Northern Realms is a reference work built on one rule: every claim shows how strong the evidence for it actually is. Popular history blends archaeology, saga, folklore and modern revival into a single confident narrative. This app refuses to do that. Each of the roughly 150 subjects across eight sacred traditions carries an explicit evidence level - Established, Supported, Debated, Traditional, Legendary or Modern Interpretation - so you always know how firm the ground is beneath a statement. Cultural separation is enforced, not gestured at. "Celtic" is never treated as one culture. Norse material is never conflated with Celtic material. Each tradition is tagged by knowledge type - archaeology, documented religion, literary mythology, later folklore or modern revival - and those categories are never blended. Explore a historical atlas of territories, sacred landscape and North Atlantic voyages, driven by a single period slider so settlement patterns change visibly over time. Around 40 sacred places are classified across six evidence levels with distinct map markers, so a confirmed excavation never looks like a folklore attribution. Read a library of public-domain translations credited to translator and year, and learn runic and ogham writing systems character by character. Step inside nine reconstructed historical worlds, such as Iceland in 950 CE, with every reconstruction labelled as such and its material basis named. Two features use AI, clearly flagged and nothing more. Saga Scholar answers questions against 27 source-integrity rules, adding corrections beside an answer rather than silently rewriting it. An artifact identifier suggests a possible culture and date range, never asserts authenticity or value, and flags likely modern reproductions. The app documents how Norse and Celtic symbols have been misappropriated by nationalist and neopagan movements - it does not serve that framing. No horned helmets, no dragons, no heavy-metal aesthetics, no racial or nationalist narrative. This is a museum wall label, not a marketing pitch. Everything works fully offline except the two clearly-marked AI tools. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. The free tier is permanent, not a trial: the complete atlas with every layer and the period slider, every reference entry, the runic and ogham lab, all source translations, and a weekly allowance of both research tools. An optional Membership makes Saga Scholar and the artifact identifier unlimited, and opens every course stage, all study journeys and progress export. Nothing you have already saved is ever moved behind membership. Built for students, serious amateurs, museum and heritage travellers, teachers and accuracy-minded re-enactors who want to know what is proven, what is debated, and what is simply beautiful story.
