About
Hear the case. Make the ruling. Step onto the bench. Hear a short fictional case, rule on it out loud in your own words, and get a rubric-graded scorecard grounded in real, verified precedent. THE 1L SIX Civil Procedure · Constitutional Law · Contracts · Criminal Law · Property · Torts. Pick an area, pick a doctrine, and every case arrives with its own court-sketch exhibit, drawn from the case file. HOW IT WORKS: ONE SITTING OF THE COURT 1. Hear the case. A narrated, illustrated case file: two sides, one dispute, under a minute to absorb. 2. Rule out loud. Argue it like a judge from the bench: your ruling, your reasons, the authority you rely on, spoken in your own words. 3. Get your scorecard. Six categories (issue spotting, rule accuracy, precedent alignment, reasoning, clarity, citation) with feedback quote-traced to what you actually said, and a spoken summary you can play back. THE METHOD If you can't say it simply, you don't know it yet. Feynman's test for real understanding was to explain a thing in plain words, out loud, until the gaps show. That is the whole exercise here. There is no multiple choice to hide behind: just the facts, your ruling, and the reasons you have to say in your own words. Prefer to type? Every ruling can be typed instead of spoken and is scored identically. THE HABIT One case a day. Every judge hears the same one. Small enough to keep, hard enough to count: one free Daily Challenge, one attempt, no retries, and then it's done and you get on with your evening. The streak is the point; miss more than a day and it goes back to one. Once enough judges have ruled, see where your score landed against the rest of the docket. THE FEEDBACK Two ways to see where you stand. Your Mastery Map: six axes, one for each 1L area, drawn from how you have actually been ruling, with a gold ring marking the line where an area counts as mastered. The leaderboard: the week's top judges by XP, reset every Monday, plus a standing showcase of the highest careers on the bench. Your own row travels with you, ranked or not. THE AUTHORITY Fictional cases. Real, verified precedent. Every case is invented. Every authority behind its rubric is a real, decided court case, and it has to prove it before the case is ever published: the citation must resolve to a real court record and the case name must match. If it doesn't, the case is thrown out and written again rather than quietly patched. Your feedback is held to the same standard: it quotes your own words back to you, checked against what you actually said, then points at the authority your reasoning should have leaned on. CLIMB NINE JUDICIAL RANKS Every practice ruling earns XP, and XP is the whole ladder, from Law Clerk to Chief Justice. How well you rule sets how fast you climb. YOUR WORDS STAY YOURS Your ruling is transcribed on your iPhone. The recording never leaves the device. We receive the text, not the audio. You read that text, fix anything misheard, and nothing is scored until you approve it. Sign in with Apple; no passwords, no email account to create. BENCH PRO Free members get one Practice case a day plus the Daily Challenge. Bench Pro unlocks unlimited Practice cases, so you can master the doctrines and climb the leaderboard faster. $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year, auto-renewing. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. Your subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; manage or cancel anytime in Settings. The Bench is for education and entertainment only. It never provides legal advice, does not predict outcomes, and nothing here applies to your situation. All cases are fictional.
