About

Incipit is a free app designed to place why a bookshop matters to you right now, not whether it is good. Search nearby bookshops, pick one you already love or one you're discovering for the first time. Then walk through seven simple lenses: the pleasure of it, the room, somewhere you have not been, someone else, how it was made, whether it is worth your hours, and the larger question it is part of. Each lens is a way of noticing, not a score. Place a shop, a shelf, or an individual book through the lens that fits. Save the shops and books you want to return to. See what the community is noticing, without rankings or leaderboards. Build a simple share card when you want to tell someone about a find. Keep a private, encrypted reflection on what you noticed. Your writing is yours. Private entries are encrypted on your device before they are stored, and they leave with you if you delete your account. Location is used only while the map is open to sort shops by distance and is never stored or shared. Sign-in is anonymous by default; you can attach an email later if you want your notes to survive a new phone. Incipit does not measure, score, or judge your purpose. It is a reading room for the reader you are and/or becoming.
