Whistlestop is made for curious travelers. It looks for places ahead worth knowing, and tells you the story as you approach. It's perfect for road trips, day trips, or even commutes around your own city. There are over half a million places to explore. The controls are simple. Start, Skip, or Stop. Start the tour by tapping "Start Tour". Whistlestop will start scanning the area. When it finds something, the story begins. Not interested? Skip it and it will start looking for something new. It works automatically. WHAT YOU'LL HEAR • Landmarks, from the famous to the ones only locals know • Buildings, bridges, roads, monuments, battlegrounds, and neighborhoods • Historical markers, including 11,000 mapped historical markers in Texas alone. • Natural features like rivers, ranges, parks, formations, and preservation areas • Local legends and quirky stuff: Roadside attractions, street murals, museums, and more Pick any road. Whistlestop looks around. Stories are drawn from our own curated places, from public records, and from Wikipedia's vast amount of geotagged articles. There are hundreds of thousands of places narrated on Whistlestop. BUILT FOR THE DRIVE • Ducks under your music instead of stopping it, and stays out of your nav app's way • Keeps talking with the screen off, or while you use other apps • Works from the lock screen and your steering wheel controls CUSTOMIZATION There are nine narrator voices to choose from. You can customize the tours around subjects History, or Nature or Everything. You can adjust how often to speak up (pacing) and how far ahead to look for places (distance). FOR THE PASSENGER Every place the guide finds around you gets a dot on the map. Tap one to hear about it. When you are parked, Whistlestop lists what's around you that may be worth hearing about.. KEEP WHAT YOU FOUND Every stop story you hear is saved to your Travel Log with the full transcript of each stop. Read them later, save a favorite, open the original source, or get directions back. The log lives on your phone and nowhere else. PRIVACY No tracking, and no third-party code of any kind. Whistlestop never asks for your microphone access. ABOUT THE STORIES Stories are spoken summaries written by AI from the sources above, retold, shortened, and occasionally imperfect.
