About

How long can you stay out before your skin starts to burn? Zenit answers that, in plain language, for the person actually standing there. CLOUD IS NOT SUNSCREEN This is the one thing almost every UV app gets wrong. Cloud scatters visible light far more than it absorbs ultraviolet — a completely overcast sky often passes 90% of the day's UV. Zenit draws what the UV would be under a clear sky right alongside what it actually is, so on a grey afternoon you can see the two lines sitting on top of each other. That is the afternoon people get caught out. NOT JUST A NUMBER A UV index of 7 means nothing if you don't already know the scale. Zenit tells you what it means for your skin: the band, the sky, and roughly how long you have. Six Fitzpatrick skin types, described by how skin behaves rather than by colour, and sunscreen counted at half its labelled SPF — because almost nobody applies the amount the label is measured at. BURN TIMES THAT ERR ON YOUR SIDE Rounded down, never up. Adjusted for altitude and for what you're standing on — snow throws back four fifths of the UV that hits it. They are estimates and the app says so. THE WIDGET IS FREE So is the UV index, today's hourly curve, the seven-day forecast, the sunscreen timer, and one alert a day. You should not have to pay to see a number your weather app gives away. TIME BELONGS TO THE PLACE Every hour, sunrise and alert is shown in the clock of the place you're looking at, not the phone in your pocket. Check the forecast for somewhere you're travelling to and it simply reads correctly. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT KNOWS Every reading shows when it was taken and where it came from, and goes visibly stale. Nothing is presented as current when it is three hours old. NO TRIAL TO FORGET ABOUT There is no free trial that starts charging on its own. The free tier is the trial and it doesn't run out. Zenit Pro adds a profile for everyone in the family, as many saved places as you like, your own alert threshold and quiet hours, Lock Screen widgets, and sun exposure history. Search any town without granting location access. No ads. No tracking. No third-party analytics. UV data from Open-Meteo, using the European CAMS atmosphere model. Burn times are estimates, not medical advice.
