Tether is a safety check-in app for solo outdoor athletes — paddlers, hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, offroaders, and sailors. Pick a trusted contact, choose how often they hear from you, and go. While you're out, Tether automatically texts your location to that person at the rhythm you chose — real SMS, so it works without internet and they don't need an app. Any phone works. A BREADCRUMB TRAIL, NOT A PANIC BUTTON • Start, check-in, and end messages frame the trail, so a missed update is never ambiguous • Every check-in includes a map link and your battery level • Out of coverage? Tether records your position and sends it the moment signal returns, marked as late — no false alarms • If your planned time runs out unanswered, your person gets one calm message with your last known location BUILT FOR THE WATER AND THE TRAIL • High-contrast, sunlight-readable screens with oversized controls for wet hands and gloves • The active screen answers three questions at arm's length: Is it running? When is the next check-in? Are messages getting through? • Pause anytime — Tether reminds you if you forget to resume • Full dark mode for pre-dawn starts HONEST ABOUT THE GAPS Tether needs cell coverage to send, and says so — to you and to your person. A missed check-in usually means no signal, not an emergency. Tether is not a substitute for 911 or satellite SOS. For life-threatening situations, use emergency services or a dedicated satellite beacon. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your location is never uploaded to any server. It goes directly from your phone to your chosen contact by SMS, only during sessions you start. No account, no tracking, no ads.
