New version 2.8 → 3.8

■ Miru is now Ekilo Same app inside. Every record you have logged, and your subscription, carry over unchanged. Only the name under the icon is different. ■ Meals are now scored, with a balance chart You can now see how far a meal sits from the ideal balance - as the shape of a chart, and as a score out of 100. The score is based on the size of that gap. Eating too much lowers it. Eating too little lowers it as well. Eating less will never earn you a higher score. ■ New in this version ・The analysis result now fills the screen. No scrolling to read it. ・If an item is identified wrongly, pick the right one from a list. The calories update with it. ・Meal-time reminders, with times you set for morning, midday and evening. ・A weekly look back. ・A morning note with yesterday's summary and your step goal. ・On days you move more, the target balance adjusts itself. ・A heads-up when one meal is large against your daily guide. ■ Appearance and fixes ・Lighter, brighter colours throughout. ・Fixed a layout issue where the purchase screen was cut off on iPad. ・Fixed the supported-language listing. Numbers are not the whole story. Go at your own pace.

About

Photograph a meal. Ekilo reads the items and portions, then scores that plate's balance out of 100. Built by a physician licensed in Japan — but not for patients. I built it for myself. I have a mostly sedentary life. When I decided to lose weight, I started with exercise, and learned quickly that exercise burns less than you would hope. An hour of moving does not cover one meal. The obvious next step is to eat less. But I know how dangerous it is to cut too far. What I actually needed was not to restrict, but to see. ■ Eating nothing will not give you a perfect score Most logging apps subtract calories from a daily budget. The more you have left, the better you feel. It is a well-made game, but the way to win is to not eat. In Ekilo, your score is based on how far the plate sits from its ideal proportions. Eating too much lowers it. Eating too little lowers it as well. Low scores are never shown in red, and the app never uses the word "failure." ■ It looks at proportions, not totals The framework is the Diabetes Plate Method from the American Diabetes Association. ・Half the plate — non-starchy vegetables ・A quarter — protein ・A quarter — grains and starches Three things to remember. No exact calorie count needed to see which way a meal leans. ■ It stays quiet about what it cannot know A photo cannot show how much oil went into the pan. So Ekilo tells you when fat looks high, but never tells you it looks low. It does not display macro percentages either — any number on screen eventually becomes a target to optimize. When grains are low, it does not say "eat more." It says you do not need to cut further. ■ Active days shift the target Steps and active energy are read from Health and folded into the day's guideline. Each record stores that day's activity, so your history stays meaningful. ■ Features ・Item, portion and calorie estimation from a single photo ・Balance of each meal as a ring chart and a score out of 100 ・Log without a photo — pick from icons, or describe it in a sentence ・Edit any item or calorie on the spot ・Remaining calories on the home ring ・Daily, weekly and monthly trends, plus a weekly summary ・Meal reminders ■ Getting started Enter your height, weight and age, and Ekilo sets a daily target — never below your basal metabolic rate. No weight-loss target is offered if your BMI is under 18.5 or if you are pregnant. Then photograph a meal, check the result, and save. ■ Privacy Records and photos stay on your device. For analysis, a photo passes through our server to Google's Gemini API and is not stored there. The only thing the developer keeps is a daily usage count — never your photos or what you ate. ■ Ekilo Pro (subscription) Free to try after install. Ekilo Pro then keeps full history, weekly and monthly graphs, and backup with photos. Cancel anytime. ■ IMPORTANT Ekilo estimates calories from photos to support everyday meal logging. It is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, medical advice or nutritional advice. All figures and comments are estimates and will differ from actual values. If you are diagnosed with or being treated for an eating disorder, or if food or weight causes you strong anxiety or interferes with daily life — including when people close to you are concerned — please do not use this app and talk to a doctor. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are a minor, consult a doctor before use. Extreme dietary restriction can harm your health. Use of this app is at your own risk. Sources for the BMI and calorie calculations are in the app under "View sources" (Japan Society for the Study of Obesity; Japan MHLW Dietary Reference Intakes 2025; WHO; U.S. CDC). Calories aren't everything. Eating well, moving often and building strength matter as much. Go at your own pace.
