Shroud Image Analyzer

About

The Shroud Image Analyzer turns a photograph of the Shroud of Turin into a 3D heightmap you can orbit, pan, and inspect from any angle. Point your camera at a printed photograph (or pick one from your library) and the app converts the luminance of each pixel into a height — brighter pixels become raised, darker pixels become recessed. The result is a 3D model you can rotate with touch gestures or the on-screen d-pad, and export as a snapshot. Originally built to explore the famous negative image on the Shroud, the technique works on any grayscale photograph — X-rays, engravings, topographic maps, halftone prints.
