About
Data Center Noise Watch helps citizens collect repeatable, location-based sound measurements near data centers and other large infrastructure sites. The app uses the iPhone microphone to estimate live sound levels and records each test with date, time, GPS coordinates, GPS accuracy, duration, average dB, minimum dB, maximum dB, notes, and optional video proof. Measurements can be viewed on an interactive map with color-coded markers so users can compare sound levels by location. The app is neutral. It is neither for nor against any facility. Its purpose is to help people document conditions using consistent, GPS-verified data that can be reviewed, exported, and shared. Features include: - Live current, average, minimum, and maximum dB readings - Continuous monitoring before starting a saved test - GPS lock and location accuracy display - Facility distance tracking - Optional video proof during measurement - Saved test history - Map view of recorded measurements - CSV and JSON export - Local-only storage unless the user chooses to share Important accuracy note: iPhone microphones can estimate sound levels, but they are not certified professional sound meters. Legal or regulatory evidence may require a calibrated external microphone, formal measurement procedures, or professional sound testing. The app includes calibration controls to help improve repeatability, but measurements should be treated as estimated sound data unless properly calibrated. No measurements are uploaded automatically. Data remains on the device unless the user exports or shares it.
