About
A quote, encrypted. Every letter stands for another one. You crack the code - and what you get back is a sentence that was worth the work. SIX LANGUAGES, REAL ORIGINALS English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese - over 4,300 quotes and proverbs in all. Nothing is translated: each language has its own body of genuine quotes and proverbs. You can filter by origin as well - British, Irish or American sayings, French, Belgian or Swiss, Spanish or Latin American, Portuguese or Brazilian. You pick the puzzle language independently of the interface language. WHAT IS A CRYPTOGRAM? A cryptogram is a letter puzzle: a sentence has been encrypted with a substitution cipher, so every letter stands for another one. In Zitatknacker every puzzle hides a genuine quote or proverb that you decode step by step. If you enjoy word puzzles, logic puzzles or secret codes, this is a calm mix of brain training and word play. HOW IT WORKS Tap an encrypted symbol and choose the letter you think is behind it. The guess applies across the whole quote at once, and every matching symbol lights up with it. The frequency strip shows which symbol appears most often - which is how a substitution cipher is actually broken. No timer, no guessing games. A NEW QUOTE EVERY DAY Each language has its own daily puzzle. Every quote you crack shows its author, its source and a short note on what it actually means. Your collection grows with every solved puzzle and can be browsed by author. TOPICS FOR EVERY MOOD Wit and sharp tongues, courage and starting, love and friendship, work and money, failure and resilience, everyday wisdom - plus easy, medium and hard. Pick whatever suits today. INCLUDED WITHOUT A PURCHASE - Three short starter puzzles in every language - Two sample puzzles in every topic - The daily puzzle, every day, in every language - The last seven days to catch up, so a broken streak is never lost - Hints, check and undo - Streak, statistics and your quote collection - Language and origin selection - Achievements and leaderboards - Light, dark or system theme, on phone and tablet UNLOCK ONCE - NO SUBSCRIPTION - The complete archive of every past daily puzzle - Every topic in full, in all six languages - More generous hints - Cloud backup for your progress and collection One purchase opens all included languages. If you bought before, the new languages cost you nothing. TIPS FOR DECODING Start with the most frequent symbols: in English texts that is often the E. Look at short words, common endings and double letters. Every correct guess applies to the whole quote at once and gives you new clues. If you get stuck, hints and the check help - you decide how much help you want. A built-in letter keyboard keeps the guessing quick, and a finished quote shows you its author and source, so every solved puzzle teaches you something. WHO IS IT FOR? Anyone who likes quotes, proverbs and wisdom and enjoys a good brain teaser. A round takes just a few minutes, the daily puzzle fits into any break, and your streak keeps you coming back. No hurry, no ads. THE TEXTS The corpus is curated and in the public domain: traditional proverbs and sayings, and quotes from authors whose copyright expired long ago. There is no user-generated content. No ads. No subscription. No mandatory account. Your data is never sold.
