About
GoldenHour tells you when the light happens. Enter a latitude, a longitude and a date, and it returns solar noon, sunrise, sunset, the morning and evening golden hours, the morning and evening blue hours, and civil, nautical and astronomical twilight, all in your local time. It runs on the device. There is no location request, no account and no connection, which means it works for a location you are not standing in and on a date that has not arrived. WHAT YOU CAN DO - Enter any latitude and longitude on Earth, and any date. - Get sunrise, sunset and solar noon. - Get the morning and evening golden hour as start and end times, taken as the sun between 4 degrees below the horizon and 6 degrees above it. - Get the morning and evening blue hour, taken as the sun between 6 and 4 degrees below the horizon. - Get civil twilight at 6 degrees, nautical at 12 and astronomical at 18, dawn and dusk for each. - See the evening golden hour at the top of the screen, and the whole day listed below it, from astronomical dawn to astronomical dusk. - Plan a location you have never been to, for a date weeks out, with no signal. HOW IT IS CALCULATED GoldenHour uses the NOAA solar position algorithm, computing the Julian day, the sun's mean longitude and anomaly, the equation of centre, the equation of time and the hour angle for each altitude threshold. At high latitudes an event can simply not occur on a given date. The app then shows a dash in that row rather than inventing a time. WHO IT IS FOR Landscape and wedding photographers, filmmakers scheduling a shoot, drone pilots, astronomers waiting on astronomical dark, and anyone who has arrived at a viewpoint twenty minutes late. PRIVACY GoldenHour never asks for your location. There are no accounts, no analytics and no network requests. The coordinates you type stay on the device.
