NewQuake shows you what an earthquake actually did, not just its magnitude. Every significant quake comes with a map you can read. Replay the P and S seismic waves spreading from the epicenter, see ShakeMap shading where the ground shook hardest, watch the aftershock sequence fan out from the mainshock, and find the active faults nearby, including which plate is diving beneath which at a subduction zone. For the largest events, watch the finite-fault rupture unfold across the fault plane. Volcanoes now stay on the Map for as long as they are erupting, with the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program weekly activity report filling in eruptions other agencies close early. Subduction faults on the Map always show which plate is diving beneath the other, and how fast it moves. A new Depth card on every event page puts the quake depth in context, against the seafloor above it and, where one is mapped, the subducting slab it sits on. Tsunami forecasts now read straight from the official bulletin, so the assessment matches what the agency actually issued. A faster, smoother Map: quicker launch, better-paced rupture replays, and a refined Last week M5.5+ quake tour.
