About
Folio Words is a vocabulary notebook for any pair of languages you can type — from Spanish to Albanian, from German to Russian. Every dictionary is a page of squared paper: a word on one side, its pair on the other, and tally marks in the margin showing how well you know it. A right answer adds a stroke, a miss rubs one out, and five strokes means the word is learned in that direction. WRITE YOUR OWN DICTIONARIES • Create as many dictionaries as you like, name the two languages yourself, and give each its own colour. • Add notes under any word — verb forms, examples, gender, a memory trick. Long notes are welcome. • Search your words and sort them by date added or alphabetically in either language. PRACTISE BOTH WAYS • Flip a card, then tell the app whether you knew it — two buttons, no grades to agonise over. • Practise from either language to the other. A word can be solid one way and shaky the other, so Folio Words keeps score for each direction separately. • Choose the order: as you added them, shuffled, or weakest first. • Words you've mastered in one direction step out of that round, so your time goes to the ones that still need it. SEE YOUR PROGRESS • Tally marks beside every word show where you stand at a glance. • A statistics screen shows how many words you've learned, direction by direction. A word counts as learned once you know it both ways. BRING YOUR WORDS, KEEP YOUR WORDS • Import a list from a CSV or TSV file, or a Folio Words file — a preview shows exactly what will be added before anything changes. • Export any dictionary as a file to back it up or move it to another device. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account, no sign-up, no ads, no tracking. Your dictionaries and progress stay on your device, and the app works fully offline. Available in English, German and Russian, in light and dark mode, on iPhone and iPad.
