AEIOU is a free, intelligent communication keyboard for people who can't speak — or can't speak as easily as they'd like to. Built for iPad and iPhone, designed around the way real conversations flow, and powered end-to-end by Apple's on-device intelligence so nothing you say ever leaves your device. Type a letter or pick a phrase. Speak with a tap, a blink, or any external switch. Every part of the keyboard learns from how you use it and gets faster every day. WHY AEIOU IS DIFFERENT ▸ PREDICTIONS THAT LEARN YOU The phrase bar uses Apple's on-device language model (Foundation Models on Apple Intelligence devices), word and phrase n-grams, semantic word embeddings, and your own typing history. It already knows the right thing to say at breakfast, at bedtime, on a Friday afternoon, after the conversation partner just spoke. ▸ QUICK LETTERS THAT ADAPT TO EVERY KEYSTROKE A row of your most-likely next letters lives above the keyboard. After "th", it surfaces e, i, a, o — exactly what you need to spell "the", "this", "that". Reorders smoothly as you type, learning your spelling habits and proper nouns. ▸ BLINK TO SELECT - INTENTIONALLY ARKit face tracking with a triple-gate detector (duration + amplitude + dwell-at-peak) ignores reflex blinks and fires only on deliberate ones. Calibrate once and the system learns your blink. Continuous baseline drift compensation keeps accuracy through the day. Practice mode lets you test without affecting the keyboard. ▸ ANY INPUT WORKS Tap anywhere on screen, blink, an MFi switch, a Bluetooth keyboard, iOS Switch Control — or all of them at the same time. Configurable scan speed, customizable pause after selection, optional long-blink to skip rows. ▸ THE PHRASES YOU NEED, ALREADY READY 100+ curated AAC phrases plus your own custom-pinned ones. Frequently-spoken sentences automatically resurface. Recents panel lets you re-speak anything from the last day with one tap. ▸ PERSONAL VOICE READY On iOS 17+ devices that support it, AEIOU can speak in YOUR own voice - recorded once in iOS Settings, synthesized by Apple's on-device model. Especially meaningful if your voice may change. ▸ EVERYTHING ON DEVICE No analytics, no tracking, no cloud. Camera frames for blink detection are processed in memory and never recorded. Word learning, phrase history, calibration — all on your device. iCloud sync (optional) carries pinned phrases, recent sentences, and settings across your iPhone and iPad — blink calibration and word learning never leave the device.
