El Recreo: Learn Spanish

About

Learn the Spanish people really speak in Buenos Aires: vos instead of tú, the porteño “sh” in calle and yo, and the everyday words you’ll hear on the street. A STORY YOU’LL WANT TO FOLLOW You’ve just moved into an old building in Palermo. Rubén, the encargado, greets you at the elevator. Sofi from 4B invites you for mate. Marta at the corner kiosco saves you an alfajor, and Lucho drags you to the cancha. Across 60 lessons you get through your first weeks in the city, and every new word comes with someone to say it to. LEARN BY DOING, 15 MINUTES AT A TIME Each lesson is a run of short, hands-on steps: • Choose the right word and see why • Match words, pictures and porteño versions • Build sentences tile by tile • Listen and pick what you heard, at normal or slow speed • Role-play dialogues and chats: you answer, the neighbors reply • Say it out loud and check your answer (optional) • Mini-games: pay at the kiosco, set the clock, order from the café menu REAL RIOPLATENSE SPANISH • Vos from lesson one: vos tenés, vos sos, vos querés • The “sh” sound of ll and y, trained by ear • Local words with notes on when to use them: che, laburo, bondi, dale, re • Culture woven in: mate, asado, merienda, the colectivo, dinner at ten EVERY LINE VOICED More than 4,000 recorded lines in Rioplatense Spanish, with a voice for every neighbor. The audio is built into the app and works offline. REVIEW THAT STICKS Phrases from your lessons come back in short review sessions when they’re due, so they stay with you.
