Sprout 1.1.1: a safety update Some activities for children under 3 used objects small enough to choke on: dried chickpeas from 15 months, rice, lentils and wooden beads from 18 months, and a marble or a coin from 24 months. That was wrong. We checked all 200 activities against the U.S. CPSC small-parts rule and changed every one that put small items in a young child's hands: • Activities built on beads, buttons, coins, dried beans, rice, stones and other small items now start at 3 years. • Toddler activities that keep their age now use objects too big to fit in a child's mouth (at least 4.5 cm / 1¾ in across), or small items sealed in a bottle with the lid glued shut. • Every activity with small or mouthable materials now shows a warning on its card and at the top of its page: adult supervision at all times, choking hazard under 3. • The AI Montessori Advisor no longer suggests small objects for children under 3. If you have done any of these activities with a child under 3, please put the small items out of reach.
