New version 18.0 → 18.1

Version 18.1 - Create, rebuilt, improved. The old Create screen asked you to choose one of five ways to start before you'd made anything. Most people never got past it. So we rebuilt the whole thing around the only question that actually matters: who is this story about? CREATE IS A HUB, NOT A MENU Open Create and you see your heroes - used this week, journeys mid-chapter, drafts still open, and the ones who have never had a story yet. Tap one and you're straight into the story. Search across your entire cast by name or trait. THE STORY IS PROPOSED, NOT INTERROGATED No more five screens of questions. Fable proposes the setting, what's unusual about it, how your hero feels about it, the trouble, how they feel about that, and a twist - all on one card, before you've typed anything. CHANGE ANY LINE Don't like the twist? Change it. Change something early and everything after it is proposed again, and we tell you before it happens. Cancel and you get your original card back exactly as it was. ONE STORY OR THREE CHAPTERS - NOW JUST A SWITCH Hero's Journey used to be a separate place with its own dashboard. It's now a control on the story card: pick one story or three chapters and carry on. Journeys under way live on the Create screen with the rest of your work. A NEW HERO IN TWO QUESTIONS Two questions, or Surprise Me, and you get three finished heroes with portraits. Keep the one you want; keep an extra for 1 token if you can't choose. The full seven-question builder is still there for anyone who wants it. PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF Unfinished stories no longer disappear when you close the app. The Still Writing shelf lists your open drafts with the real deadline on each one, and re-opens on the exact question you stopped at. YOUR FIRST STORY IN ABOUT THREE MINUTES New storytellers now get one short setup screen, six ready-made heroes to choose from, two questions, and then a finished illustrated story. No locked characters anywhere in it. FIXED - Onboarding now loads faster with a progress screen to show you what's happening Writing stories is still free and still unlimited.

About

Pick a hero. Fable proposes the whole story - where it happens, what goes wrong, how it turns. Change anything that isn't right, and it's written, illustrated and narrated in minutes. Creating stories is free. Unlimited. No trial, no catch. NEW: CREATE OPENS WITH YOUR HEROES, NOT A MENU There used to be five ways to start a story, and you had to pick one before you'd made anything. That's gone. Create now opens on your cast: who you used this week, who's still waiting for a first story, which journeys are mid-chapter, which drafts you left open. Tap a hero and the story is already proposed. IF YOU BUILD WORLDS Cast a hero, drop them somewhere impossible, and hand them a problem worth solving. Setting, twist and trouble all arrive as suggestions you can overwrite. Three-chapter journeys let a character carry a desire, a flaw and a love across a real arc. Search your whole cast by name or trait - build forty heroes and actually reuse them. IF YOU WRITE TO THINK Some stories are how you work something out. Start from a blank page with Craft Your Own: Fable asks, you answer, and the story is yours line by line. Leave mid-draft and come back - unfinished stories wait for you on the Still Writing shelf. HOW A STORY GETS MADE 1. Pick a hero - yours, or one from our cast. 2. Read the proposal: the setting, what's strange about it, how your hero feels, the trouble, the twist. 3. Change any line. Change one and everything after it is proposed again. 4. Choose one story, or a three-chapter journey. 5. Write it. Illustrated, narrated, saved to your device. A NEW HERO IN TWO QUESTIONS Answer two things - or tap Surprise Me - and Fable returns three finished heroes, each with a name, a personality, a skill and a portrait. Keep the one you want. Want to answer all seven questions yourself? That door is still open, and it still makes the best characters. CAST & CREATE Browse the Character Library and cast a ready-made hero straight into your story, each with their own quirks, strengths and flaws. Free heroes are yours to use any time. Premium heroes cost 1 token each time you cast them. New characters are added regularly. IMAGINE IT. HEAR IT. SHARE IT. - 75+ expressive voices (subscriber feature): narration that sounds human - Share to the Community Feed, or keep it on your private bookshelf - Subscribers can have stories featured on our Spotify and YouTube channels - Every story saves to your device. No Wi-Fi? No problem. Flights, road trips, bedtime in the deep woods. - Daily streaks and Master Storyteller achievements earn bonus Trail Tokens HOW TOKENS WORK Writing is always free and always unlimited. Tokens are only for extras: downloading a story's audio, opening the next chapter of a journey early instead of waiting, keeping an extra hero from a set of candidates, and casting a premium character. New adventurers start with 3 free tokens. One-time token bundles and monthly subscriptions are both available - subscriptions include the full expressive voice library.
