Hundreds more stations. The app now reads the open observation networks of the United States, Portugal, Japan and Spain - including the Canary Islands, where most Spanish spots are. Over 2,500 stations join the real wind shown beneath the forecast. Australia joins too, through its national observation network. In the United States these sit ON the spots: 1.6 km from Rincon, 2.1 from Ocean Beach, 2.3 from Mavericks, 3.8 from Pipeline. Where the app previously had to settle for an airport 30 km inland. Nothing is downloaded if you are far away: each network only wakes up for a spot inside its country. Measured across the 284 spots in the catalogue: the share with a station within 15 km rises from 34 to 42%, and from 29 to 45% in Europe outside France. The search radius has not changed. Widening it would have produced a better number by importing airport sensors 30 km inland - a reading that does not describe your spot is not a reading. Fair winds and good waves!
