Promotional text “Newsbin 2.5: iPhone Duo support, a Sidebar Order sort that turns your library into one queue, and card-style Large Thumbnails. Private RSS, every Apple device.”
Oct 12, 2026
New version 2.4.1 → 2.5.0

What's new in this version of Newsbin Newsbin 2.5 adds a Sidebar Order sort that turns your whole library into one reading queue, a redesigned Large Thumbnails view, webcomics that actually show the comic, inline podcast playback, and support for iPhone Duo. New - Read in Sidebar Order: sort articles the way your sidebar is arranged, with a section for every source and folder. Clear a section from its header and Newsbin moves on to the next one with unread articles. - Clearing a feed now advances to the next item below it in the sidebar, instead of jumping back up to its folder. - A beautiful new Large Thumbnails view: articles appear as cards with edge-to-edge imagery, the source banner over a soft gradient, and the headline and excerpt beneath, matching the Breaking News style. Articles without an image keep the same card shape. - Webcomics now show the strip, not the site's navigation or footer, with its hover text included, even when the feed only carries a link. - Podcast episodes get a native audio player above the show notes. - Article audio and video now appear in the system Now Playing card, with the title, source, and artwork, so you can control playback from the Lock Screen or Control Center. - iPhone Duo: the reader toolbar adapts when the device is unfolded. The unread count now draws as a symbol so it stays in the vertical toolbar rail instead of being pushed aside, and compact numbers keep large counts readable. - Folder-aware list headers show each source's folder beneath its name, with the folder's own icon and color. - Widget: extra-large rows now give titles two lines instead of showing an excerpt. Improvements - Pull to refresh now waits for the refresh to actually finish instead of snapping back immediately, and the status names the feed when you refresh just one. - The Breaking News rail holds still during a refresh or sync instead of reshuffling, and cards keep their position when the same stories stay on the rail. Top Stories now has a proper empty state. - Unread badges update right away after you read, instead of lagging behind when you return to the sidebar. - A faster, lighter article list: the heavy work now runs off the main thread, so scrolling and switching feeds stay smooth on big libraries. - Lower memory use while Newsbin is in the background, which means fewer reloads when you come back to it. - Background image and thumbnail fetching is now paced per site and backs off when a site starts blocking requests, so a newly added feed can't get your connection flagged. Newsbin can also read AMP versions of pages that block normal requests. - Many real article images that were previously hidden or discarded now appear, across a range of publisher image services. Fixes - The reader keeps your scroll position when you switch away from Newsbin and come back, instead of jumping to the top. - iPhone: background refreshes now actually save the articles they fetch. - iPad: the article you were reading reopens after the system closes Newsbin in the background. - Fixed feeds whose audio came before the article link showing a page of garbled characters instead of the episode. - Newsbin now refuses to add a feed URL you already follow, whether you add it by hand or change an existing feed's URL. Two copies of one feed previously split its articles between them. - macOS: fixed clicking an already-selected row doing nothing after an accidental range selection. - Fixed opening the Tags settings panel interrupting Apple Watch sync.
