This version enables use not only in Japanese-speaking but also English-speaking countries, and by using the KFRE formula for non-North Americans, it is possible to determine the risk of progression to end-stage renal failure recommended by the KDIGO 2021 CKD guidelines. This allows for referrals to nephrologists, referrals to preventive clinics for renal replacement therapy by a multidisciplinary team, and the timing for selecting renal replacement therapy. Additionally, prognostic prediction formulas specialized for IgA nephropathy help avoid excessive immunosuppressive therapy in low-risk cases, while conversely, it is possible to determine when to initiate aggressive treatment in high-risk cases. Additionally, the new formula for estimating GFR by the 2021 CKD-EPI provides more accurate GFR for all races and people with uneven body types. It is especially useful for patients around GFR 60 with negative urine abnormality and can help prevent overdiagnosis as CKD.
